Kids definitely aren’t meant to sit still for long periods of time so why not get them moving with some simple, easy prep gross motor activities.
I know my kids definitely get antsy when they haven’t had enough movement which is why I came up with this dice game.
My girls loved it!
Kids Dice Games
When I first started to create this dice game, I made it for balloons. However, as time passed, it made me think of twists for things to do with balls, too.
So I made my kids both: Balloon Dice Game and Ball Dice Game!
To Create Your Own Balloon or Ball Dice Games for Kids, You Will Need:
- balloons
- dice
- empty toilet roll
- empty bottle
- spoons
- plate
- ball pit balls or other balls
- laundry hampers or other large containers
- Game templates
Balloon Dice Game for Kids
Blow up a few balloons and place them into a laundry hamper or other large container.
Then place a second laundry hamper or large container in a different place in the room/house.
Collect a dice, two large spoons (like wooden spoons) and a plastic plate.
To start the game have your kids roll the dice then do the corresponding movement to move the balloon to the other laundry hamper.
Here are each of the movements my kids got to use in our dice game.
Rolling a 1
Using only one hand, get your child to move the balloon. Whether they try to balance it or hit it with one hand, both are good.
My child got a little creative as she said she involved her elbow, too.
Definitely not how I expected that to go but hey, why not. Follow your child’s lead.
Rolling a 2
Using two large spoons like chopsticks, have your child pick up a balloon and transfer it to the other hamper.
Rolling a 3
If you roll a 3 on the dice in the game your kid has to walk like a bear while swatting the balloon with her hand.
This one was a lot of fun to watch. Especially when my child added sound effects.
Rolling a 4
Have your child place the balloon between their knees then hop or waddle to transfer the balloon.
Rolling a 5
For rolling a five on the dice in your game, have your kids use a plate to hit the balloon.
When I made this one, I thought for sure my child would use the plate to hit the balloon up and keep it up. However, instead she hit it along the floor.
That works, too. Once again, why not!
Lastly, Rolling a 6
Kick it! Kick, kick, kick away!
My daughter definitely enjoyed this!
Kicking a balloon is much different than kicking a ball as it doesn’t go as far. It made me giggle as to how much she would wind up for it to only go a short ways.
When she got to the other hamper she wanted to try and kick it right into the hamper.
I must say this was a challenge for her.
Kicking a balloon into something is much harder than it looks, especially if there is already something in it.
She was so proud of herself when she finally did it.
The kids balloon dice game was a lot of fun that my daughter just continued to play it for 30 mins.
Definitely a win!

Ball Dice Game for Kids
So like I said earlier, while I was making the kids balloon dice game I decided to make a ball game, too.
It’s played the same as the balloon game but I changed up the activities a bit.
For this activity, I used ball pit balls as they are light and easy to move.
Also, I recommend playing the ball dice game for kids on a hard surface as one of the activities doesn’t work very well on the carpet.
Rolling a 1
Using just one hand, have your child balance a ball and transfer it.
The more your child opens their hand the trickier it will be.
Rolling a 2
This is like the egg and spoon race.
Have your child balance their ball on a spoon and walk it to the other hamper.
Rolling a 3
If you roll a 3 on your dice in the game, have your kids balance a ball on top of an empty bottle.
The wider the lid opening the easier the ball is to balance. Something to keep in mind when collecting your supplies.
This one was trickier than my daughter expected. It took her a few tries but she persevered.
Concentration was the key here!
Rolling a 4
Balance a ball on top of a toilet roll.
I added this one for fun as it was easier than the bottle. However, if you were to use a longer paper roll than it would make it harder.
I will have to give this a try next time.
Rolling a 5
Blow the ball!
This was the action that I mentioned would be hard to complete on the carpet.
Have your child go down to the floor and blow the ball across to the other hamper.
This was really fun to watch as the ball would go every which way when my child blew it.
Rolling a 6
Roll a 6 on the dice and its a ball throwing game!
Have your child throw the ball.
This was a great way to practice those throwing skills.
Once again, my child spent 30 mins playing the Ball Dice Game.
Another activity win!
My kid did both versions of the dice game one after another as my daughter saw the other paper and was excited to try it.
I followed her lead.
Download the game templates and give these a try!
Or if you don’t have a printer draw it out or just write it down.
Your kids are sure to love them. No matter what age!
