This winter activity is great for kids learning to count! It’s a snowman with a twist! A snowman counting activity that’s great for counting one to one.
Yep, that’s right, the snow is coming…
It’s inevitable but let’s embrace it and have some fun!
And let’s face it, who doesn’t love snowmen? We all do here!
It’s actually my favorite decoration in the Winter! We have them everywhere!
So let’s welcome winter and the snow with open arms, and have some snowman fun!
However, this time let’s stay indoors where its warm and cozy and have some fun!
These adorable snowman crafts might just change your mind about dreading the snow.
They are so cute that you might just be motivated to go outside and build a real one! Just maybe!!
Ping Pong Ball Snowmen Activity
To create your own counting snowman activity, all you need are some ping pong balls and a few sharpie markers.
Grab a black and an orange sharpie marker and draw a cute snowman face on about 10 balls.
You don’t have to be super creative here, some dots are all that’s really needed.
If you have older kids, bring them into this creation part! They’ll love making snowman faces for their little brother or sister.
Look at how cute that snowman face is! Simple, but I absolutely love it!
Next, write numbers on other ping pong balls corresponding to numbers you would like to develop with your child.
For instance, if you’re working on the numbers 1-10 then write each of those number on a separate ping pong ball.
If you have an older child working on skip counting, you can add in 5, 10, 15… up to 50 or 95, depending on how far your child can go.
To add some anticipation for this snowman counting activity, I first had my child sort the ping pong ball out.
She sorted the snowman pieces by snowman faces, numbers, and just plain ping pong balls. My daughter sorted them out in no time at all.
Why not add another activity to it! The more the better, to keep your child’s attention longer.
When my daughter was younger, we worked a lot on sorting items, so this came more natural for her.
Now, have your child build a number snowman by setting a snowman face on the surface first and then choose a numbered ping pong ball.
(By the way, we chose to do it on the carpet because it held the ping pong balls in place. They would roll around a lot on a hard surface. You can simply do it on a towel or rug.)
That numbered ping pong ball is key!
Your child will then count out that corresponding number of regular ping pong balls to build their snowman below it!
One to one number correspondence is a skill that all children need to develop.
So why not have some fun learning it!
Snowmen activities are a favorite of mine and there are so many various things you can do with them.
From creating a cute cotton ball snowman, to an easy Lego Snowman, to even a Snowman Sensory Bin, there are so many possibilities to have fun a Snowmen theme.
So tell me…
