Alisha is an Early Head Start teacher who really loves the idea of teaching her own son.
Before The Activity Room she didn’t even know where to start. Busy mom, no time, no real ideas and no direction.

After finding herself at home with plenty of time to spend with her kids due to COVID-19 school closures she was given the life changing gift of a membership to The Activity Room from a friend.
“Being a member of The Activity Room makes me feel good that I’ve been teaching (my son) and that we’ve been spending a lot of time together. And it’s nice because we also have my husband join in when he’s home. So it’s like family stuff we can all do together.“
Hooked on Activities
After joining Alisha was so excited about all the things that kids learn through the activities that they don’t even realize they’re learning. Plus she likes all the little crafts her son makes. “I’ve got a lot of keepsakes now.”
Alisha says her son is learning so much through daily activities at home.
“I mean, he knows shapes and colors, can cut with scissors really well.
Without The Activity Room we wouldn’t have been doing many activities. He wouldn’t be doing what he’s doing.
He’d be learning it at school, but we wouldn’t be spending that time together doing it at home without ROOM.”
Just like in the melted snowman shapes craft she shares with us at the bottom there are many hidden learning aspects in the activities.
What I like about ROOM, is that it helps you to come up with different activities. And if you go on the Facebook page, there’s all kinds of activities that you’ve done in the past that you can go back to and do again.
The shares and posts in the ROOM Members Only Facebook group is very inspiring and encouraging. That is one of Alisha’s favorite parts.
My favorite part is seeing all the posts of everybody doing the projects? And like seeing and getting new ideas from everybody else?
Always Room to Improve
Alisha tells us she is working on being prepared ahead of time. She notices that it’s hard to keep her son’s interest when she is getting things ready. She wants to prepare when he is sleeping instead.
“My tip is not leaving things to the last minute. That’s what I need to work on too. I would get things ready and not try to do everything when he’s awake. So that’s what I’d say, be prepared.“
Even though it only takes moments to set up these activities, her biggest tip is to get things ready ahead of time. 5 minutes can feel like a long time to young children.
“I’m thankful we found The Activity Room. I really love doing all the activities and thank you for making this group for us.“

Tanner, my son is 2. And Ayden, my stepson is 7.
Why do you love doing activities with your kids?
I love spending time with Tanner and watching him learn new things. I love doing crafts together and having all the homemade keepsakes.

What is your favorite activity you’ve done in The Activity Room?
The shape balloon jump. He did that for a long time!!

What’s your favorite thing to do with your kids when you get a few moments?
Play!! We love playing trucks and blocks! Going outside and riding bikes and of course, crafts!
What’s your best tip for doing activities with your kids?
Be prepared! Try doing preparations the night before. Or at least before you say let’s do a project! hahaha. Still working on that myself.
If you were to tell a friend about The Activity Room, what would you say to them?
The activity room is Awesome to me! Before the activity room I never really did that many projects and activities with my boys.
Now with the activity room I do so many projects and spend so much time making memories with my boys. I love it.
Melted Snowman Shapes Craft:
The activity I want to share is melted snowman shape craft.
Supplies Needed to Make a Melted Snowman Craft:
- Paper (Blue, White, Brown, Orange and Black)
- scissors
- glue
Preparing Your Melted Snowman Craft:
First cut a bunch of squares out in different sizes from white paper.
Next a long triangle for the nose out of orange paper.
Little circles out of black for the mouth and 2 big black circles for the eyes.
You can also cut a hat out of the black paper for your melted snowman craft if you want.
Lastly, cut 2 long brown rectangles for the arms.
I didn’t have all the colors of paper so I just colored them in for him before setting up the activity.
Making a Melted Snowman Craft Using Shapes
I gathered all the supplies and put it all in front of Tanner.
First had him cover a large section of the blue paper with glue.
Then had him glue all the white squares all over the bottom of the paper!
Next he squeezed more glue on his melted snowman and placed the rectangle arms down on his craft.
I loved how he was learning about shapes without even realizing it. As I named the shapes and colors he would find them.
The fun thing with a melted snowman craft is that it doesn’t matter where he glues the pieces so he can be creative in his own way.
There is no wrong way to make this simple shapes craft!
We switched to a glue stick and he added the eyes and carrot nose wherever on the snowman he wanted!
Finally we added the buttons for the mouth as he saw fit.
I had to let it dry a bit before we could display it because he enjoys squeezing glue just a little to much.
But what toddler doesn’t.
If you are worried about a mess or too much glue try using a dish and paintbrush to spread glue onto the paper instead.
Or lay a shower curtain down under the activity before you begin making your melted snowman craft.
We also have lots of tips for keeping messy play clean!
We enjoyed it a lot! He enjoyed squeezing glue and putting all the pieces together. Maybe a little too much.
He enjoys showing off his melted snowman craft to people when they come over.
I love the activity room!! I love getting new ideas and seeing how people do them and sharing ideas of my own!!
