Make math exciting with a snowman scavenger hunt to match numbers and counting with stickers! Fine motor and gross motor in one activity! Win win!
Let’s face it, snowmen are adorable!
Snowmen are truly a favourite of mine!
In fact, I have multiple snowman decorations throughout my home.
Whether there’s snow outside or maybe just a chilly day, why not bring some snowman excitement inside.
Let’s get the kids excited about it, too!
Crafts, games, activities, you name it. Anything snowman related is so much fun for everyone!
Counting Snowman Scavenger Hunt
To create your own Counting Snowman Scavenger Hunt, you will need:
- large sheet of paper (art paper/butcher paper)
- regular white paper
- dot stickers, bingo daubers, or stamps
- small container to trace circles with (or a circle punch)
- scissors
- markers (black and orange)
- tape
First, create a bunch of snowmen on the large art paper, using the container to trace circles.
I didn’t create anything fancy.
I traced the container, added a hat and face and my snowmen were done.
My girls were pretty excited at this point!
“Mom! Snowmen! Snowmen are my favourite! What are we doing with them?”
I love it when my kids get excited about something before it’s actually ready!
Their motivation for our snowman scavenger hunt has already started.
Next, trace a bunch of individual circles onto some white paper.
Cut them out and add a number to each of them.
Add the same corresponding numbers to the top of each of the snowmen and you’ve now created a simple number practice activity.
Depending on what level your child may be at, you can added larger numbers or even add mathematical equations.
Using painters tape, attach the snowmen paper to the wall.

Next, is the fun part!
Take all the individual snowman math circles and hide them around the house for a scavenger hunt.

Snowman Scavenger Hunt and Counting Activity
Have your child search for one circle at a time and bring it back to the snowmen to find the matching number.
They can use sticky tack or you can fold some tape to the back the circles to attach them to the snowmen.
Both my girls absolutely enjoyed this!
I find that if I add a scavenger hunt to any activity, they always love it!
Once the girls had finished the scavenger hunt and matched all their snowmen we moved on to counting!
I came up with an extension to this activity because they were asking for more.
If they’re having fun, why not go with it?
I gave them dot stickers and had them count out the corresponding number of stickers to each snowman.
This then added fine motor practice to the activity!
Win!
This extension was great as it added some one to one correspondence practice for my youngest.
What I also loved about this activity, is that it had multiple steps to it which made it last a little longer than other activities.
Starting off with a snowman scavenger hunt gave us gross motor and then counting with stickers was a perfect ending with fine motor.
And with the fun snowman theme the kids were having so much fun they quickly forgot they were doing math!
We enjoyed our time so much that believe it or not, my girls actually asked to do it again.
Who knew that would happen!
I was shocked!
