Does your child have an over abundance of energy? Give this super simple hop activity to match colors and wear your preschooler out!
It had been -40 C here for so long that we are all going stir crazy!
I needed something new, fun and energetic for my kids to do.
So here I was, looking around my house at different supplies, wondering what to do.
I came across our ball bit balls and thought it would be a great idea to do an activity with them.
My girls love ball bit balls and they can be used in so many different ways.
I got to thinking about the balls and colors. What could I do?
It definitely needed to be something that got the kids moving. Not being able to go outside was tough!
I came across my colored tape and the idea came to me: a colored path to jump on.
Gross motor and color matching…why not!
Colour Matching Hop Activity
To create your own Color Matching Hop Activity you will need, colored masking tape and ball bit balls.
We had multiple colors of masking tape, therefore, we were able to use all colors of our ball pit balls.
But don’t worry, if you only have a few colors this activity will still work out great!
Or you can substitute with white and color the center of the spots! I would recommend permanent marker to avoid it getting all over your preschoolers feet while they hop!
Setting Up the Color Matching Hop Activity
Begin by making an X out of each colored tape at one end of an open space.
Next, using one colored tape at a time, create a path of X’s to the other end of the open space.
When spacing out the X’s think about how far your child may be able to hop.
Continue with the remaining colors until you have a full jump path for each one.
Place the tape rolls at the end of each last X. In addition, place one empty container in a central space.
Now, we’re set!
How to Play This Color Hop Activity
Let’s have some fun!
Have your child randomly choose a colored ball and then go to the starting X that matches that color.
Next, have your child hop on the activity path of colored X’s that match their ball color.
Once they reach the last X, they are to bend down and balance the ball on the tape roll.
They can then go back to the beginning and grab a new ball.
Jumping along the same colored path as their ball, over and over, again!
If they get to the end and there is already a ball on the tape roll, they are to switch the balls and throw the other ball into the empty container.
What kid doesn’t love to throw balls?
Go ahead and watch your kids burn away all that excess energy!
My girls caught onto to this hop activity super quickly and were having so much color matching fun!
After a little while, I decided I would switch up the hoping activity a bit.
I then asked them to choose 2 balls.
They were then to create a path by jumping back and forth between the 2 colors.
Wow! They loved this!
They were even creating patterns and they didn’t even know it!
So what are you waiting for?
Grab some tape and balls and get those crazy wiggles out with your own color matching hop activity!
Your kids are going to love it!
