This is a list of books recommended for my oldest, Henry when he was in 3rd grade, reading at a 4th grade level. This post contains affiliate links.
A while ago, I asked if you wanted to hear about some good books for older boys to read… and it was a big yes!
I have recently made a list of 10 classic books for boys that make for great reads and a few of my son’s favorites (he’s 9 and read these all this past year-ish).
I’d like to expand on this list of other books that I’ve had recommended to me by parents of my son’s friends, as well as from some readers of Hands On As We Grow.
(And just for reference, this past year, Henry was in 3rd grade and reads at a higher 4th grade level. These aren’t all right at that mark, but it’s a good reference point.)
Make sure you read this post to find the ones he’s already read and loves:
And these are the ones that have been recommended to us. He hasn’t read them yet though.
Recommended 4th Grade Books for Boys
I personally like having a series of books for him to go through. It makes it super easy to pick the next book. So many of these are in series, but I’m not limiting it to that.
In the parentheses beside the author name, I have included Accelerated Reader information (that’s what our school uses). BL: Book Level or Grade Level and AR Pts: how many points the associated quiz is worth.
These books stand on their own – no series needed! And from what I hear, he may want to read it again and again.
