Try out this color sorting activity to add a twist to play dough time today.
Play dough is one of those supplies that goes a long way in our house.
I get it out, the kids play with it for hours.
There is just something about the endless creative options that make it an appealing choice for all ages!
This time, I also got out toothpicks and beads to make a fun, low-prep color sorting activity for my three year-old.
Make Color Sorting Activity with Play Dough, Beads, and Toothpicks!
To make color sorting towers, you will need:
- play dough in a variety of colors
- beads that match the play dough colors and are large enough to fit over a toothpick
- toothpicks
No toothpicks? No problem! Check out this color sorting activity using playdough and beads!
After gathering your supplies, form balls out of each color of play dough.
Your child may want to help with this step!
Rolling play dough is a great skill to work on. But, if they are struggling, just let them squish a round blob.
They will love having a little ownership of their color sorting activity!
Next, stick at least one toothpick into each ball of play dough.
Finally, invite your child to sort out the beads by color by sliding the matching color onto the toothpick.
Super simple and fun!
