I’ve got an easy and adorable spring tree craft for you to try with your toddlers and preschoolers at home using toilet paper rolls!
Recent things my kids are learning: how the water cycle works, how to play the piano, how to not use the entire roll of toilet paper in one sitting.
Good thing there isn’t a shortage of toilet paper anymore, otherwise we would be in some serious trouble.
But even when these kids of mine do manage to use the correct amount of toilet paper, we obviously still end up with tons of empty toilet paper rolls.
Time for a craft!
Easy Spring Tree Toilet Paper Roll Craft for Toddlers and Big Kids Too
To make your own easy spring tree toilet paper roll craft for toddlers, you will need:
- cardboard toilet paper tubes (paper towel tubes would work, too)
- white or pink cardstock or construction paper cut into an oval or circular shape
- pink craft supplies: tissue paper, buttons, ribbon, stickers, washi tape, etc.
- scissors
- pink and brown crayons and/or markers
- glue
The only prep you will need to do is gather the supplies and cut the oval tops out of the cardstock or construction paper.
If you are using construction paper for your toilet roll craft then you may want to glue two sheets together to make it a bit more firm for your toddlers.
Of course, just because I cut ours into ovals doesn’t mean you need to, as well.
Make the tops any shape you (or your kids) would like! If you choose ovals, they can be turned either way.
Making Spring Tree Crafts with Toddlers using Toilet Paper Rolls
First, color on the toilet paper roll with brown markers or crayons.
As you will see, my two-year old scribbled, my seven-year old made a neat bark-like texture, and my five-year old did something in between.
This is the beauty of this toilet paper roll craft for toddlers: anything goes!
Next, color the oval cardstock or construction paper with the pink markers or crayons.
If you are using pink paper, this step is optional, of course.
Now have your toddlers and big kids decorate the top of the toilet paper roll spring tree craft!
Glue on the pink crafting pieces.
Finally, cut two opposing small slits, approximately a half inch long, on the top of the toilet paper roll.
This will allow the tree to stand by itself.
Slide in the decorated pink top.
Your toilet paper roll spring tree craft for toddlers and big kids too is complete!
The Versatility of This Toilet Paper Roll Craft for Kids
My seven-year old daughter’s tree, pictured above, is probably the “exemplar” version of this craft.
However, if you are doing this with younger kids, don’t worry about perfection!
As you can see, my two-year old’s spring tree craft is much more abstract and messy, and that is totally fine.
Here is another easy spring tree to make with toddlers–and it’s sparkly!
Toddlers will get some good fine motor practice with this craft by gluing on their pink craft pieces as well as coloring on the toilet paper roll.
However, my sons favorite part was using the glue stick!
So proud!
The key with this easy spring tree toilet paper roll craft is that toddlers can actually make it themselves!
And that means that no matter how it looks they can feel successful and build confidence in themselves doing it.
Speaking of non-exemplars, if you are wondering where my five-year old’s tree is, it isn’t a tree.
At some point in typical five-year old boy fashion, it morphed into something much sillier: a “Creepy Pink Princess Leia Pumpkin Face Baby.”
Like I said before, this is the beauty of crafts like this.
There is no wrong way to do it, and my son was thrilled to make his baby tell jokes in his version of a “creepy baby” voice.
I love that this toddlers toilet paper roll craft is open-ended enough that each of their spring trees look completely different. Definitely my favorite kind of project!

Adapt Your Craft for Any Season
You could easily adapt this to any season’s tree just by changing up the colors.
- Winter: Use white and silver supplies
- Summer: Use shades of green
- Fall: Use orange, yellow, and red. Or make it an apple tree with green colored paper and red craft supplies.
