This President’s Day, why not make the most of the day by incorporating some red, white, and blue crafts and patriotic crafts with your kids?

President’s Day is just around the corner, and while I love the idea of celebrating a patriotic holiday in American history, I feel like kids often just think of President’s Day as another day off from school. They have a vague idea of the holiday but really don’t know much about it or why it’s important. Crafts are a great opportunity to teach your kids more about the United States Presidents.

President’s Day is a great way to incorporate oodles of crafts and activities that will be super fun and patriotic.

Plan Your Patriotic Day

Prep your Presidents Day activities ahead so you don’t feel overwhelmed with last-minute details as you plan your patriotic day.

Below, I’ll give you some fun ways to incorporate fun facts about the White House, President’s names, your favorite Presidents, and more about this federal holiday.

These fun Patriotic crafts with interesting facts will be the perfect way to teach your younger children and older children even more about the important people that make this national holiday special.

What a great time to extend your plans to include watching a patriotic movie or cartoon or reading a few picture books. Why not borrow items from your local library about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington?

It’s so important to help our children understand more about our country, our history, and our presidents.

President’s Day Collage

My friend Julie shared the simplest, most heartfelt President’s Day collage and writing prompt idea with me. She used simple water colors in red and blue to create two blocks of color. The blue one her child glued to a white piece of paper, and the red one he cut into strips then glued with space in between to create an American flag collage. At the bottom of the page, her child wrote this simple writing prompt, “If I were President, I would…” and filled in his answer. If your child isn’t old enough to write, you could let him dictate his answer for you to write instead.

Try this simple President's Day activity and make a beautiful Stars and Stripes collage!

Finger Painting Fireworks Patriotic Craft

Another idea that is just too fun to pass up for a patriotic holiday is my friend Erin’s finger painting fireworks.

She took washable paints (red and blue obviously, but other colors work, too), paper, and glitter and made the cutest fireworks you ever saw.

Each child dipped one finger in paint and dotted it on the paper until he made a firework.

Super simple and cute! I just love this.

Patriotic Color Sorting

Some kids activities that work well for a patriotic holiday is a color sorting sensory bag.

It’s a great idea, and my kids love doing these any time of the year, but if you make the colors to sort red and blue, you instantly have another patriotic activity.

Sensory bags are so fun, fast, and simple that I love incorporating them whenever I can.

This patriotic color sorting activity is a win in my book!

How to Create a Red, White, and Blue Menu

There’s just something about a patriotic holiday that calls for some fun food ideas. Why not incorporate some red, white, and blue food items into your President’s Day menu?

You could even have the kids create actual menus to display on the table along with decorative red, white, and blue beaded napkin rings.

A Traditional Family Favorite Patriotic Craft Meal

Perhaps make something traditional like meatloaf topped with ketchup and mashed potatoes on the side. That takes care of red and white. Add in a “blue” beverage like grape juice or a tropical fruit punch for all three colors.

For dessert, try patriotic fruit kabobs alternating strawberries or raspberries, blueberries or grapes, and banana slices or marshmallows.

Patriotic Nacho Sampler

If your family prefers finger food, try a patriotic nacho sampler. Use blue corn tortilla chips along with white queso and red salsa for just the right patriotic twist. Have your kids help you come up with as many red, white, and blue toppings as possible for their nachos. Trust me, it’s a blast!

Presidential Favorites

If red, white, and blue foods don’t hit the spot for your family, try searching online for favorite foods of a specific president. For instance, Abraham Lincoln enjoyed bacon, and George Washington started most mornings with hoecakes (similar to a hotcake or pancake).

Maybe have a President’s Day breakfast with these two favorites highlighted on your morning menu for a special day.

Seriously, the possibilities for crafts, fun, and food are almost endless. I’ve found so many creative ideas over the years and can’t wait to see what you come up with for your own President’s Day menu and red, white, and blue crafts for kids.

Enjoy getting a little more hands-on as you help your kids appreciate our presidents!
