Being a mom is a lot of work.

It requires being present most of the time, especially with young kids.

So, finding some uninterrupted minutes to give yourself a little self-care is essential for being a better mom. In addition, taking some personal time for your own needs helps you find a sense of self that gets pushed to the sidelines when you’re a parent.

mom time, how do find personal time as a mom

If you find yourself needing some “me” time, keep reading. In this article, I’m going to share with you my favorite tips for planning personal time so that you can recharge and regroup for the next day!

Essentials for Mom “Me” Time

Before you begin your quality time, there are a few essentials to go over.

self care comes first

Essential #1: What Is Your Goal for Personal Time?

The first step is determining what you hope to accomplish with your personal time.

For example…

Do you want to take some quiet time to dive into a good book?

Do you want to scroll through social media for a little bit without little ones clawing for your attention?

Determining how you want to spend your free time helps you prioritize things in your life that you can’t find the time for.

You might be a working mom who wants to take a spa day or grab a cup of coffee by yourself.

On the other hand, you may be a stay-at-home mom who wants a bit of time to work on a side hustle.

Once you figure out these priorities, taking time for yourself will be a lot more structured and serve a greater purpose.

Essential #2: Find a Safe Spot for the Kids to Hangout

The second step is to give your kids structured, safe playtime so that you can take some time for yourself.

You could go to an indoor kids’ gym or sportsplex and watch your little ones get their energy out.

During this time, you can work on any hobbies or side projects you usually don’t have time for.

Essential #3: Schedule Personal Time on Your Calendar

The third step is to schedule personal time on a weekly or daily basis if needed.

For example, you can make time for a social life outside of your home with your mom friends one night of the week.

In addition, you can take Saturday morning when your kids are watching cartoons to work on your physical health like exercising.

If you can find enough time, you can also schedule in working on a side hustle or another hobby every day!

Finding time to schedule time for yourself is hard for busy moms but not impossible. All you need to do is take a little time each day or week to yourself, and you’ll find yourself easily fitting it into your busy schedule!

Tips for Making Personal Time

Alter Your Sleep Schedule

To make more time for yourself, you may need to alter your sleep schedule.

If you wake up at 6:30 am and have no time left at the end of the day for yourself, you may need to get up 30 minutes earlier. I know this is tough, but trust me. That extra 30 minutes of precious time goes a long way when you’re a busy parent.

Just make sure you get enough sleep each night so that you’re not drained during the day.

Make the Most of Nap Time

If your kids still have nap time on a regular basis, you have some extra time to yourself.

You can work on your side hustle, workout, nap, read a book, or do whatever else you want to!

Nap time doesn’t last forever, so it’s essential to squeeze in alone time when you can!

Perfect Your Bedtime Routine

If your bedtime routine is lacking and you’re not taking enough time to yourself, it may be time for a routine makeover.

I know you’re tired at the end of a long day and want to do nothing more than get into bed. However, taking care of yourself is also considered personal time!

Take a Long Lunch Break

If you’re able, take a long lunch break. A lunch break is a great way to take some time for yourself when you have a packed schedule.

Instead of scrolling through your phone (unless you want to), you can read a book or work on that side hustle.

Final Thoughts on Making Personal Time as a Mom

Taking some personal time for your mental health is one of the best things you can do as a mom.

Not only will it help you become a better parent, but it will also give you time to work on your passions or hobbies.

Just because you’re a busy mom doesn’t mean you have to stop doing the things you love!

As moms, we constantly focus on the needs of others, but we also need to take a little time to focus on ourselves!

Hopefully, these tips will help you so that you can start taking some time for yourself and becoming the best mom you can be!
