I thought I’d share some fun activities that are animal based that can be used as activity extensions for the animal books you’re reading!
I love these activities that go with some of our favourite animal books for preschoolers.
Animal Activities to Go Along with Animal Books
- ‘The Donkey and the Wolf’ activity that really gets into the book from The Usual Mayhem. Reenacting the story! Go ahead and give that a try!
- ‘Five Little Ducklings’ activity goes on a hunt for the ducks, just like in the book! A scavenger hunt outdoors, as well as a virtual one from photos taken. Love both of those concepts from No Twiddle Twaddle.
- Painting the dog in ‘Dog’s Colorful Day’ with everything throughout the book! A messy take on literacy from Reading Confetti!
- Role playing zoo characters that are found in ‘Dear Zoo’ from Entertaining Monsters.
- Study up on birds with Fantastic Fun and Learning.
- Sensory bin turned bug exploration at Messy Little Monsters. Plus more bug activity ideas to extend the play. Add a magnifying glass for added fun.
- Butterfly art inspired by the artist Damien Hirst found at Taming the Goblin.
- Felt Magnet shared a sensory activity of an under the sea bag art project using fun stickers! Pair this one with ‘Questions Questions’.
- We made prints in mud, animal tracks, hand prints, footprints and just plain got muddy!
- Fun at Home with Kids has a science and sensory Fizzy Hidden Ocean Life activity that is super cute!
Next time you read an animal story book to your preschoolers, try adding one of these fun animal activities into the mix to make the learning even more fun.
