Feeding Pac-Man! A Squeezing Fine Motor Activity

Feed the Tennis Ball Pac-Man Activity

To create your own Feed the Tennis Ball Pac-Man activity, you will need:

  • a tennis ball
  • beans or other small object (like beads)
  • googly eyes & glue if not self adhesive
  • spoon
  • utility knife

Using a utility knife, cut a slit in a tennis ball to make a mouth that opens and closes as little hands squeeze it (and build hand strength)!

Next, you’ll attach 2 googly eyes and your Pac-Man is complete! Whether you have self-adhesive googly eyes or glue them on with hot glue or school glue, whatever you have!

Lastly, place some beans and a spoon in a small bowl for easy access.

Feeding the tennis ball setup

Have your child squeeze the tennis ball to open the Pac Man’s mouth.

Then, scoop up a spoonful of beans and feed the Pac-Man by pouring it very carefully into the open mouth of the tennis ball.

squeeze the tennis ball to open the mouth of Pac-Man to feed it

Yum, yum, yum! Chomp, chomp!

Not only is squeezing the tennis ball great fine motor practice but also scooping with the spoon to feed the Pac Man is.

Squeezing a tennis ball is a great fine motor strengthening activity!

My girls found that the most difficult part of this activity was actually squeezing the tennis ball to open the mouth.

To fix this problem, I cut the mouth slit a bit wider so that it is easier to squeeze open.

Use your judgement of your child’s abilities and adjust as needed. (Easier to cut it open further… so don’t cut too big to begin with.)

pouring a spoonful of beans into the tennis ball also builds hand-eye coordination and control.

I must say, this activity led to some silliness. My oldest decided it would be hilarious to place tennis ball on her nose.

“Look, Mommy! Pac-Man is eating my nose!”
