It’s time to shell-abrate with a day at the beach! And what better way to do that than with a fun list of beach activities for kids, beach themed snacks, and even indoor beach theme activities for rainy summer days!
Playing in the sand, swimming, and splashing in the water are fun to do on a hot summer day.
But they are not the only activities you can do at the beach!

Kids Activities to Do at the Beach with Preschoolers
Water activities are cool and so are these!
Grab your swim suits, towels, and sunblock for some fun activities to do at the beach with preschoolers and bigger kids too!
And make sure to take plenty of shell-fies!
- Explore tide pools like Go Explore Nature. Similarly, read about them in the Shine-A-Light book called Secrets of the Seashore by Carron Brown & Alyssa Nassner.
- Go on a beach scavenger hunt as shown on Natural Beach Living. Before heading out, print the free printable or create your own.
- Search for tracks and footprints in the sand like Parenting Science. Then create your own footprints in the sand.
- Make sand angels as shown on Susan Homeschool Blog.
- Build sand castles using the tips found on Run Wild My Child. Above all, the building tools, sand preparation, and a castle foundation are important for the success of a strong castle!
- Count shells like Pre-K Pages. But instead of using a pan filled with sand, use the sand on the beach.
- Sort shells as seen on Playground Park Bench. For example, sort by shape, color, or size.
- Play tic tac toe like Kids Craft Room. First, find two different kinds of shells or stones on the beach. Then draw lines in the sand and begin.

Indoor Beach Theme Activities for Preschoolers
Bad weather doesn’t need to cancel all beach plans.
Instead, bring the beach indoors!
Set up some towels, put on a bathing suit and sunglasses, and enjoy these indoor beach theme activities.
- Play beach ball sight words as seen on Kids Activities Blog. Then try one of these 12 sight word activities from Hands On As We Grow.
- Try beach ball painting like What Can We Do With Paper and Glue. All you need is a beach ball, some paint, and paper.
- Practice fine motor skills with a tissue paper beach ball as seen on Glued to My Crafts. While you have the paper plates out, try one of these 7 paper plate activities.
- Make beach ball plates, cups, and napkin rings like Hands On As We Grow. Then enjoy an indoor beach picnic.
- Create a shell necklace as seen on Kids Activities Blog. If you aren’t allowed to take shells from a beach, then use shells from the store.
- Play a seashell memory game like Growing up Gabel. After playing, put the shells in a small bag to save for another day.

Beach Theme Snacks for Preschoolers

A peanut butter and jellyfish sandwich doesn’t sound very appetizing.
