For this frame craft, you will need:
- Large craft or popsicle sticks, or cardboard (like from a cereal box)
- Paint, or markers
- Glue (hot glue or any craft glue you like)
- Decorating materials (like colored corn or pasta, beads, old puzzle pieces, etc.)
Let’s Get Started Making a Simple Popsicle Stick Frame!
Step 1: Make the Frame
You can make the frame from cardboard or craft sticks. You can measure your child’s art and make a frame that fits it, or make the frame first and add the art later.
Simply glue the popsicle sticks together on the corners to secure the frame in place.
For younger kids, you might want to have this step done first. My oldest, at 9, wanted to do it herself.
Step 2: Paint the Picture Frame
Now it’s time to add some color to the frame. Let your child be as creative (or not) as they would like.
If you don’t want to wait for the paint to dry, you can use markers instead.
Step 3: Decorate the frame
Once the paint is dry, it’s time to get creative!
You can use all sorts of crafty things you have around the house.
You can use washi tape and glitter glue to make the frame look fancy without making it too bumpy. This is especially good if you want to mail the picture frame.
If you want a more 3D look, you can use colored pasta, gems, and buttons.
Step 4: Add the Artwork!
After decorating the frame, you can put a photo or a picture your child has drawn onto the frame.
We like to use tacky glue for this step.
