A fun twist on fine motor creative play with LEGO blocks! Try out this super simple Christmas LEGO Masters challenge for kids to do at home.
We watched the TV series called LEGO Masters as a family this past spring.
My kids had been fans of LEGO® blocks before that, but that pushed their interest to a whole new level.
It is truly amazing what professional LEGO block artists can create!
When I suggested that we do a quick little Christmas LEGO block challenge of our own, of course the kids were all about it.
Christmas LEGO Challenge for Kids
To hold your own LEGO Masters for kids, you will need:
- a bunch of LEGO building blocks
- that’s it!
It doesn’t get much easier than that, does it?
I prompted them with this story:
“A few days before Christmas, Santa went out to his garage to take a look at his sleigh. He wanted to make sure it was working properly before his big night!
When he turned on the lights, he was shocked to find that a family of polar bears had made a cozy home out of it and they were NOT eager to give it back!
What is Santa going to do? He needs your help!
Can you build a new vehicle for him to use on Christmas Eve?”
You can prompt your kids with any story of your choice. You can base it on a book or just a made up story.
Make sure that the Christmas LEGO challenge is open-ended enough that they can use plenty of creativity.

You can easily adapt the Christmas LEGO challenge for adults, too.
Here is an example. Everyone in our family got so into the TV show that on two recent family vacations. We planned our own version of LEGO Masters to complete in teams of adults and kids!
Our LEGO Christmas Challenge Results
Here is Santa’s sleigh going for a test ride! She named it “Santa’s Crazy Doodle Sleigh.”
My daughter finished her Christmas LEGO challenge before my son so I gave her a bonus challenge:
“Santa is tired of his reindeer all looking the same. He always gets them mixed up!
He makes an advertisement asking all of the most unique looking reindeer to come apply for a job with his team.
Make a reindeer that Santa will want to hire!”
Meet Santa’s new reindeer, who was given the unfortunate name “Farty Pants.”
Hey, Santa was looking for something unique…
To make your Christmas LEGO challenge more challenging, add specific criteria they must meet.
Such as a short time limit, using only a certain color, or requiring the use of a moving part.
My son made one named “Cool Sleigh” and features a propeller and secret compartment for an elf!
Building with LEGO blocks encourages a child to focus, use creativity, and put their fine motor skills to use in a fun way.
You really can’t go wrong with this Christmas LEGO challenge!
