This knock-down race car activity shared by Emma of P is for Preschooler can be used for learning many different concepts, including sight words, numbers, letters and so much more! Adapt it for your child!
I’m convinced that my 6 year old daughter Kay could learn anything if we bring out cars and trucks to do it with.
So, as she needs to learn sight words for school, one of the activities we’ve been doing is this fun race car one!
This would be a great addition to a transportation theme week of activities, or to go with race day!
We used these supplies for this race car activity to learn sight words:
- Pool noodles
- Index cards
- Remote control car
I cut the pool noodles into chunks, making sure they were tall enough so that the car would hit them, not just roll over them.
Then, I made slices in the side. I wrote some of her sight words on index cards and slid them into the pool noodles. Perfect little stands.
Now for the fun racing part of this activity.
I set everything out ahead of time, so Kay came out of the house to find our driveway covered in sight words and her remote control truck waiting for her.
She was excited to get started on this race car activity she could hardly wait! (When learning causes grins like that, we’re doing something right!)
Got a child that loves vehicles? There’s more to do with ‘Things that Go’!
I would call out on of her sight words and she would find it and speed the truck to run it over.
For good measure she’d backup over the word again. (Poor pool noodle!)
Then on the next word to race to with the remote control race car.
Again, you could replace the sight words in this race car activity with any other learning element, you could do numbers, or math problems, or letters, or shapes, and so on.
We did each word a few times and then she just had fun using the pool noodles as bumps in the road for her remote control race car.
Well, at least they are multi-purpose!
What a fun race car activity for preschooler to learn their sight words! All about hands on learning fun.
It can be so much fun to teach beginning reading to preschoolers with this toy race car activity!
