Click here to read Quick Button and Sponge Fine Motor Busy Bag Idea on Hands On As We Grow®
My two year old has really been drawn to activities with small movements and little pieces. She is working on developing and mastering those fine motor skills.
She currently loves any type of “seek and find” challenges. So I knew this activity would be of interest and a success for her.
If your toddler loves seek and find busy play activities too, check out this challenge using water and shapes!
Quick Button and Sponge Busy Bag Activity
With these two things in mind, I wanted to create a simple activity with minimal prep.
For This Button Busy Bag Activity, You will Need:
- A clean, dry sponge
- A box cutter or exacto knife
- Buttons (A crafty mix like this is always fun!)
I had all these materials on hand.
Quick Prep for Button Busy Bag
Firstly, I used our box cutter to make small incisions throughout the sponge: top, bottom and sides.
Secondly, I put a few buttons in the holes to give her an idea of what to do.
Thats it!
Quick prep as promised.
Button Busy Play Time for Toddlers
Right away, she got to work !
Although this activity is great fine motor work, it can also be used for so much more!
For instance, you could invite your child to sort buttons by color and size.
You could also incorporate button counting and even pattern making for an older toddler!
I love this button tree post that has another fun busy bag (or box) idea for kids who love buttons!
After she had all the buttons removed from the sponge, she took all of the buttons out of her bowl and placed them back in to the sponge in their various slots.
She then repeated this cycle a few time before deciding that she was done.
Make this Button Activity a Busy Bag to Go
I love that this will be a great activity for us to tuck away on outings or car trips as well.
Turn this button activity into a grab and go busy bag like I did.
Just pack it in a sealable bag and tuck it in your purse or diaper bag.
It is great for those moments where you need something quick on the go to keep your toddler busy!
These busy bag ideas for on the go are so awesome as well!
What is your toddler’s favorite fine motor work?
I would love to hear!
