9 Simple Seed Science Activities
- Sort and compare seeds from How Wee Learn. How are the seeds different? Mixing the seeds in a container filled with rice adds a fun challenge!
- Experiment with dancing apple seeds like Coffee Cups and Crayons. Who knew you could make a seed dance with soda? Or is it pop?
- Dissect a bean seed like Buggy and Buddy and learn about the different parts of a seed. Do you know what the cotyledon is? It’s more than a fun word!
- Create a heart bird feeder. What birds like the seeds the best? How do they eat the seeds? Try a bird book, binoculars (optional), and some observations to extend this activity.
- Grow seeds in a jar from Little Bins for Little Hands. A clear jar gives little scientists a clear view of seed growth in this planting activity. What are the different parts of the plant? And which direction do they grow?
- Watch grass in a CD case grow from Paper Blog. Thankfully, you won’t have to mow this grass! But, how long will it take before it outgrows the CD case?

- Construct a sprout house shown on The STEM Laboratory. Perfect for little builders!
- Decorate an egg for an egg head planter as seen on Playdough to Plato. I love the variety of seeds that can be planted in these egg heads!
- Grow some leprechaun hair. It won’t be long before the leprechaun will need a hair cut.
- Try sorting seeds as seen on Pink Stripey Socks. Make paper fruits and vegetables. Then, glue the seeds on the correct plants.
- Make a watermelon seed craft found on Happy Hooligans. Try using actual watermelon seeds!

- Fill a handmade sunflower with seeds as seen on She Knows. Count the petals and the number of seeds for some math practice!
- Fill a sunflower seed Styrofoam flower with seeds in this plant activity. A Styrofoam ball serves as the center of the flower, and pipe cleaners are used as the petals.

Flower Themed Arts and Crafts
